2019 Plein Air at the Fair

Paintings are created on the fairgrounds, of the fairgrounds. Artists submit their work of fairgrounds various events and or structures. The amazing handcrafted paintings showcases the abilities of our local artists. See below for rules.

Department 22 Section 8

01- Plein Air At the West End Fair Contest:


Each Painting must be created entirely on site at the West End Fair between Sunday August 18th Noon- 9PM and Monday the 19th Noon-5PM. Painting must be of something on the fairgrounds that they are looking at. (ie. Rides, buildings, animals, attractions, etc.)Prior to starting to paint you must check in at the Entry Department.

A painting will be disqualified for judging if the artist:

  • Is found using an iPad or photos on their easel
  • Is not within the gates of the West End Fair
  • Intentionally impedes the sightlines of other artists


First 20 artists to register will be accepted. There will be a separate $25 registration fee. All artists will receive 2 painting passes to be used to enter the fair grounds. Registration fees are not refundable.

Check-in and material stamping:

Check-in and material stamping will be open on Saturday August 17th, from 9am- 4PM at the Entry Department which is located next to the ticket booth at the Main Arena.

Materials:Media may include oils, acrylics, water colors, and pastels.

Maximum submission size: Unframed- 320 square inches Framed-480 square inches

For the purposes of this competition, square inches shall refer to the standard formula of length multiplied by width.For example 16 inches X 20 inch canvas = 320 square inches.

All canvas need to have a wire or ability to be hung once painted.


Artist must drop off the artwork by Monday night at 5PM at the Main Office. Check-in stamp must be visible on the back of each painting in order to be accepted.

All submitted exhibit art must be for sale and remain in the exhibit until auctioned off on Saturday at the main stage. Artists will receive 65% commission on all paintings auctioned off.

Artist payment will be mailed to address provided on registration form within 2 weeks following the end of the fair.

Judging: Will take place Monday night.


First Place: $200 Sponsored By: Pocono Painters

Second Place: $150 Sponsored By: Country Home Learning & Art Center

Third Place: $100 Sponsored By: Pocono Art Council

Best Fair Icon: $25

Best Fair Depiction of the Fair: $25


Regardless of the cause, the artist agrees to bear all risk and expense for any loss, theft or damage to their artwork or other personal property. The fair will use reasonable care to protect artwork but will not be held responsible for any damage or loss once we are in possession of artwork.
